Estimating Hansen solubility parameters of organic pigments by group contribution methods

The Hansen solubility parameters (HSP) are frequently used for solvent selection and characterization of polymers, directly related to the suspension behavior pigments in mixtures. performance currently available group contribution (GC) methods HSP were evaluated found be insufficient computer-aided product design (CAPD) paints coatings. A revised and, this purpose, improved GC method is presented estimating organic compounds, intended pigments. Due significant limitations methods, an uncertainty analysis parameter confidence intervals provided order better quantify estimation accuracy proposed approach. Compared other applicable prediction error reduced significantly with average absolute errors 0.45 MPa1/2, 1.35 1.09 MPa1/2 partial dispersion (δD), polar (δP) hydrogen-bonding (δH) respectively a database 1106 compounds. comparable overall performance, higher δD lower δP δH.
